The Canton Mitey Mites Baseball (CMMB) program is excited to offer a Spring Coach-Pitch Classic during the weekend of April *28(if necessary), 29, 30, and May 1st, 2011. This Spring Classic will be open to any coach-pitch 8-under team who would like to play a few games before their regular seasons begin. Tournament information is listed below, with details about how the Spring Classic will be played.

Spring Classic Information

Tournament will be played at the Fisher Field baseball facilities

(Located at the intersection of Dalton Ave. and

J. Babe Stearn Baseball fields will be used, if needed, for consolation games

(Located directly behind the J. Babe Stearn Community Center)

2011 Canton Mitey Mites Spring Coach Pitch Classic Rules

Preliminaries

1. 8 & Under Tournament; Birthday cutoff is May 31^st. Players cannot be 9 before June 1^st.

2. Ten (10) Players (max) can take the field during tournament play.

* Players Allowed: (1) Pitcher, catcher, third base, short-stop, second base, first base, right field,          right-center field, left-center field, left field.

3. Roster players are only permitted to play on one team during tournament play. Failure to follow this rule will result in a forfeit of each game player plays for.

4. Matching players will not be mandatory during tournament play.

5. Teams can play their games with 8 players to start during all coach pitch games. If a team shows up on the day of the game and does not have at least 8 players, this will result in a forfeit by rule.

6. No mandatory inning rule for players during tournament play.

7. A continuous batting order can be used, and is optional. A continuous batting order must be declared before the start of each tournament game and must be followed until the game is completed.

8. There will be a 10-run mercy rule after the 4^th inning is completed. If a visiting team has a 10-run lead after 4 complete innings, or if a home team has a 10-run lead after 3 ½ innings, then this will be considered a completed game by the mercy rule.

Defense

1. If at anytime a Coach or a Coach Pitcher makes contact with the ball within the field of play, this will result in a dead-ball and player runners will be awarded bases indicated by the halfway chalk lines. A Coach Pitcher must make every attempt to avoid the baseball when hit and is only on the mound in the position as a pitcher. Fielding players must throw the ball back to the player pitcher for it to be called a dead-ball. The ball must be controlled by a player pitcher for a dead-ball situation, it cannot be bobbled.

1. A player pitcher must remain behind the Coach Pitcher during an active pitch. Once the ball reaches the plate or is hit, then the player pitcher can move freely.

1. If a BATTER hits a ground ball to a player pitcher then this is NOT a dead-ball for any runners until after the batter makes an out at first base or is safe at first base. After this result, any player pitcher having the ball will cause a dead-ball situation.

1. If a BATTER squares around to bunt at a pitch, the batter must follow through with the bunt. If a batter squares to bunt and then pulls it back during the pitch with the intent to swing, this will result in an automatic out at this age level. The reason for this is that at this age level, the delayed player reactions to this situation will result in increased potential harm.

1. A player pitcher must be within the 4 bases of the infield to force a dead-ball situation. A player pitcher cannot be in the outfield to force a dead-ball situation.

1. Defensive players should not be standing on a base UNLESS making a play. Two (2) warnings will be given with a third (3) offense, and beyond, resulting in a free base if offense results in a runner being unable to advance or score on a batted or throw ball.

1. Defensive players cannot switch positions during an active at-bat. Defensive players can, though, change positions as often as they like in between batters and from inning to inning.

Offense

1. Each batter shall receive 8 pitches, per at-bat, or 3 strikes. If contact is not made then the batter will be counted as an out after 8 pitches. Foul balls on the eighth pitch will extend the at-bat until a forced out our missed pitch.

1. All baseball bats must be 2 ¼ barrels. No big barrel bats shall be used.

1. Coaches - Hold runners on base until ball is struck

1. In the event of an injury or discipline, the Head Coach must announce the removal of the player to the opposing Head Coach and scorekeeper. No out will occur for either event and the player will not be permitted to re-enter after removal from the game.

1. (6) Inning games. Six run rule per inning – after six runs, take the field. The sixth inning is unlimited runs. In the event of a tie, after six innings, the game will continue with unlimited runs per extra inning until there is a winning team. The 10-run mercy rule will take affect during the 4^th inning.

1. Coach pitchers must pitch over-hand and the Coach pitchers must remain within the circle of the mound during live action. Player pitchers must remain behind Coach Pitcher until the ball crosses the plate or is hit into play. Player pitchers may leave the mound circle to make an attempt on each play.
